The Loop Trail is about 4 miles long (the Summit Trail is .6 (6/10) of a mile but STEEP) and takes you all the way around the rock and also Turkey Peak, Little Dome, etc. It's good for a really great view of the domes from a different perspective that I had never seen before. Most of the trail is pretty mild, wide, and even, but about a quarter of it is actually single person wide and a bit rugged. A couple of places are even confusing on where the trail actually is so be careful on the the Loop Trail if you are taking kids or pets with you. Several water refill spots on the Loop Trail and a couple of bathrooms even - but don't expect flushing toilets or sinks, etc.
It's always so awesome to visit! Weekends can get crowded, but it's worth it. I stayed at one of the primitive campsites and it was great. Spaced out from other campers and there is a compost toilet. Showers are at the bottom of the trail if you need it. Not too bad of a hike to it, if this is your first time, but you should pack light if you're planning to stay on the primitive campsites. Personally I forgot something in my car and had to hike back down and hike back up. Still worth it though!
Enchanted Rock is an amazing place to escape to nature! I have been here five time now and every time it is different. The view is breath-taking and the climb is worth it. I would warn people against bringing small kids or carrying babies because it is a steep hike to the top. It is easy to slip and little kids will get tired easily. Carrying them up their would be miserable, as I saw many who needed to stop who were carrying their child. This is a great family activity for those who love adventure and nature though. Please be aware that at time the park is very popular and closes for a short while. If you are going on a day you might think will be busy, plan ahead to wait or go early in the morning.
I know they are trying to keep it natural but the trail signage could really be improved. I wanted to try a couple of different trails that were on the map that I was given but the signage and the printed map were conflicting and confusing so I stayed on the Loop Trail. Do some research before you go if you want to be adventurous.
Don't forget about the other trails in the park. There are several more besides the Summit Trail to the top of the rock that everyone does.
There is a playground, primitive camping spots, camping spots with grills and tables, etc.
BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL area that we are so lucky to have!
Absolutely beautiful! I hope next time it isn't raining and warmer than 44 degrees so that we can go hiking!
This park is great. Me and my boy hiked into the Walnut Springs primitive area and camped with a great view of the dome. We made it up Enchanted Rock the next day with his 4yo brother and mom. The park isn't big but it's got so much to do. Hiking the 4 mile loop or through the canyon. Trecking up the rocks or into the caves. There's some climbing to do also. A day trip is good but the park really does close when at capacity for a few hours at a time so come early and have a backup plan. I recommend a couple of nights at minimum but make your reservations early.
